Manga and anime are irrelevant since their canons are significantly different from the games, and arguing about what starter "fits" who most is incredibly subjective and irrelevant.
Sure, maybe Incineroar "fits" Kukui better, but why does that matter? Garchomp is Cynthia's ace, but in what way does it fit her thematically? Same goes for Haxorus and Iris. Yeah, she's a dragon trainer and it's a dragon type, but there are a lot of other, more feminine dragon types that would fit her more (Dragonite, Altaria, Flygon). How do any of the Kanto starters fit Blue?
Hell, in Sun and Moon specifically Olivia says something about how rock types are her specialty despite them being nothing like her.
Furthermore, if these were things Gamefreak cares about in development, wouldn't they make the "canon" starter the one they believe will be most popular? If this is the case then the prevalent idea in this thread of it being Decidueye is contradicted by the fact that Incineroar is clearly the one they predict to me most popular, as evidence by the fact that it's shown as fully evolved with Ash and Mallow while Rowlet and Popplio are still in their base forms in that anime concept art.
