When you exclude Legendaries we really dont have that many Dragon Types.

I'll never understand why they did this. What other starters would become part dragon with a mega? Feraligatr? Serperior?

The whole point is it's a rare type, yes. Especially since the type is frequently given to legends, meaning it has very few "normal" pokemon. Rarer types have more average pokemon because they have less lenedaries.

Sceptile should have had that typing from the get-go.

In fact, a lot of Pokemon should've had a secondary typing added from the get-go.

It's literally the only way to make shit relevant but GF refuses to do so and instead added Megas.

Feraligatr is the most likely one and would be pretty neat with the others:

Only partially true.
Disregarding legendaries Dragon hasn't been particularly rare since gen IV, including them it hasn't been rare since gen II. Hell, Dragon was one of the most common types in gen VI and the most commonly acquired type upon Mega Evolving.
Look at Ice which was already a rare type and has only become rarer as time has gone by, making it tied for the rarest type in total as of gen VI with Ghost.

Honestly, they have it rough too. Between legendaries and starters, a lot of Fire is taken up a lot by pokemon not found in the main game

Platinum has a balanced dex. You can pick from Infernape, Rapidash, Flareon, Houdoom and Magmortar.
It's only in DP where this is a problem.

Nope, you get it before the league in Platinum, but I'm not going to defend trade evolutions.

I personally use new pokémon only for the first title in a generation. But for 3rd installments, remakes and sequels I use the opportunity to use pokémon from previous generations if they appeal to me and I haven't used them before.

I just want my favorite starter to have something over Gyarados. Not even Liquidation was given to it. In fact fuck Liquidation's distribution, there is no reason that shit should be confined as it is.

Speaking of Water/Dragon, why in the world wasn't Mega Gyarados a Water/Dragon? I might answer my own question with this, but I do feel like maybe Gamefreak had SOME amount of insight and realized that increasing Gyara's stats which most Megas get across the board and then giving it a typing that suddenly shrinks its weaknesses down to a whopping 2, probably wasn't a good idea. That would mean Gamefreak is capable of foresight, which I highly fucking doubt. Just doesn't make sense that Gyarados didn't get the Dragon typing despite almost every one of its Pokedex entries and the lore that its evolutionary line was based off of in the first place treating it as such
