But I have a shiny Altaria I had since Sapphire who has a truckload of ribbons who is going to collect these aswell. Except the ones she already has offcourse.

I was more triggered by the lack of champion ribbon in the gen 5 games and there was no unique league ribbon for FRLG. HGSS didn't technically have a champion ribbon, but it gave you one if you defeated Red. I want to be able to show that a Pokemon I got went through all of the regions and became a legend in each.

The ribbons serve as visible achievements for each pokemon. Proof and bragging rights. (except for people who hack/cheat)

So yes, there is good reason for people to care about them.

I occasionally consider digging up old games and getting a mon I like and fully ribboning it up, then I feel like there's no point because I can't actually go all out with it without the online ribbon(s) from gen 4 that aren't legitimately obtainable anymore.

Tempted to do it the lame way and pick a gen 5 or later mon so I can cover that failing by just saying it would have been impossible to get those old ribbons to begin with.
