There's literally no reason not to, when you can just have somebody clone + trade you a Pokemon later on if you missed it and you're desperate. Very advantageous for them.

This. Munchlax is clearly a "better make those on the fence want to buy this early" measure.

The true test will be whether the QR code events become standard for SM events.
