Eviolite wasn't a mistake.
The mistake was not fixing certain pokemon's stats after releasing eviolite.
They could have boosted the eviolite to make a lot of weaker mons usable if only they fixed porygon2 and shit.

Alternate dimensions weren't NEEDED to make the plot work. They could have easily substituted Ultra Space for another planet, and had the wormholes just teleport you across this dimension. But they went with an entirely different dimension because it makes UBs cooler, not because it was plot-necessary.

I wanna know whose idea it was to take the Hoenn box legendaries, already 3 of the most powerful mons in the game since gen 3, and super charge them even further. Rayquaza doesn't even need an item, and loves the Flying STAB move even if it did not need to run it

Their original thought probably came from wanting to give Kyogre/Groudon updated abilities after the Drizzle/Drought nerf, but they went too far.

What Eviolite ruined was future Pokemon design. See Gen 4 where they added a bunch of rad new evolutions for Pokemon like Tangela and Electabuzz? The Eviolite ended any hope of that happening again and probably a big reason why we only get Megas now. Alola forms are a great workaround in theory but underutilized and poorly done.

The reason we have megas now is because GF didn't want people to lose their favourites upon evolution so they made temporary evolutions.

There's no justification for the evolution whatsoever. The only difference is that it breaks off the helmet and changes its size and color slightly. There's nothing about it that can be considered an evolution and everyone assumed, with good reason, that the helm being broken off would just be a form change and that there would be a story reason as to why it would break it off. They mention that trust would cause it to break it off, but what we end up with is a Pokemon with no story, that just shows up at some point missing its helmet and that is it. Made to be a beast killer? It never even fights one.

100% nonsensical wasted potential.

This shit is great.

When you know you're going to go down in your next hit but need to get off an attack you can hope that your mon will tank a hit for you.

It made the games a lot more fun, also when they glance back at you during battle.
