It's not like there's much they can do on the 3DS. I felt as though Pokemon S&M is as far as the 3DS can handle performance wise. If the third rumored instalment does appear on the Switch, then it's likely that was how they intended to have the game. It make sense from a business standpoint that they'd want to get as much money as possible while the 3DS is on it's last legs.

Pokemon has incredibly high poly models. That makes an engine chug.
Sm4sh does some really cool shit with swapping to low-poly low-res models when you're playing, but switching to much nicer looking models when paused. Monhun probably covers up it's chunkier models with its nice textures and constant movement. Pokemon can't get away with the same tricks because the models are stuck in place during battles.

Basically, the Nagoya store wasn't prepared to sell something popular with otaku so they had no limit of amount of stuff a person could buy so they all rushed to get as many sleeves as they could. They knocked merchandise in the process and even Lillie sleeves themselves were on the floor.

Other stores like Tokyo Sky Tree, Fukoka or Sapporo had reports of it being much more peaceful because they had a 10 unit per customer limit on Lillie sleeves. They still sold quickly out but it wasn't chaos because there were no opportunistic resellers.
