Compare how many times you saw and got to know Kukui and Alder compared to Diantha. Hell, compare how many INTERESTING interactions you had with Diantha to the boring ones with either two and you'll find her lacking.
Fuck, you don't even fight Alder the first time around, you have to rechallenge the E4 a second time in order for him to challenge you as a Champion since you've already proved to him you're more than strong enough to have earned your title.
Kukui literally helped guide you every step of your journey, watching your progress through each island before placing himself as your final obstacle to becoming Aloha's first ever League Champion. Oh yeah, that too, motherfucker literally makes the League from the ground up in his region.
