Okay can somebody help me out here?

okay that's fine but:

there are other flaws but those are the most glaring. a lot of it just seems really anti-climactic and had me thinking "huh?"

can anyone defend this or is it just shoddy writing?

While I agree it was a little disappointing the UBs didn't actually matter in the long run, I was hoping for a quest of going back through the islands to battle and convince the Tapus to help fight them but the rest of your points is mostly just you not exploring.

Fairly sure that Aether Foundation, barring Wicke, was under influence of Nihilego's neurotoxin that kinda... altered their mindsets. Before you "lol BS," reminder that neurotoxins attack brain. Lusamine might have been legitimately insane (as in being unable to tell fiction and reality apart).

I have no explanation for the second point, though.

Before you try saying you did read it all properly, it's obvious you didn't because all of it gets explained. Why she's evil, why Aether is good in the end, etc. The writing is good, you're just autistic and lack any sort of reading capabilities

No. Only Lusamine was injected with any toxin and that was at the end when she fused with Nihilego. They were just following Lusamine as their leader. But not all of Aether was like that, some genuinely wanted to help pokemon.

Lusamine went insane after losing her husband.

2) Most of them weren't strictly a threat to begin with, and you get to "save" Alola eventually so whatever.
3) They were never bad to begin with, they just fought you because you broke into their base. The ones with suspicious dialogue like "I will eliminate you!!", etc.... well every company has their fair share of douchebags and crazies.

Because she has been ridiculously high on nihilego venom and craving a bigger fix, she decided to bring the supply to her so she could indulge herself forever. As for Aether, given how most of them likely didn't know, it would be reasonable to assume the workers who were involved with her trying to bridge dimensions like this probably either bugged out or got put away quietly by Looker and Anabel due to unleashing extradimensional terrors. Or, with Gladion and Wicke moving to head Aether after the situation that happened, are possibly stripped of everything business related of value and demoted so far that they have to get a promotion just to shovel pokemon dung.

Lusamine became crazy and obsessed, you can see her starting to go back to her senses after you fight her and she tells lilie that she has become beautiful

This is a weird part, when you talk with hapu she tells you that she along with tapu fini fought an UB and almost lost, what it seems to have happened was that the UBs flew after fighting for a while or they disappear just like Nihilego at the lab and then they came back somehow.

This is the thing that most people don't understand, when you see in the intro lilie getting chased by aether workers it isn't because they're bad, it's because lilie is stealing a pokemon from them and they are trying to get it back, when they attack you at their base it isn't because they're evil, but rather because you're invading their base, remember what Faba says to you when you first met him and when you're about to fight him?, he's the ''Last line of defense of Aether fundation'', also when you talk to the employees post game, they thank you because you took care of the dark part of the fundation, thus making them focus on their main objetive, protecting the pokemon of alola.

lusamine is well written in the way that she's crazy so her endgame don't have to make much sense to begin with. Though it is explained why things got to the stage they are at which is pretty good for a children's game where she could have just been mean to be mean.

She tells you she wants to protect and "love" them in the same way Aether Foundation protects other Pokemon. She initially tells you she believes there may be Pokemon from other worlds and that they too are deserving of love then Nihilego conveniently shows up right after that.
That changes to her going batshit and wanting to live in Ultra Space, she was also possessed by a Nihilego while staying in there(While cruel, I personally would have left both Lusamine and YABOI there)

You cannot see everywhere at once and would have literally zero idea that the other UBs were even around outside of Hapu's dialogue immediately after the event and the UB Hunting Postgame Quest. This is common videogame logic, you see events through cutscenes your character couldn't have possibly seen. Why didn't you ask Lillie who those people in white she was running from were when you first met her?

There's nothing wrong with the team suddenly reforming themselves, they were still a conservation and protection group long before Lusamine became president. Mohn's research and subsequent disappearance are what spark the events of the game.

For a simple 10 hour long story you guys sure miss a lot of stuff.

The whole Aether Foundation doesn't turn against you, it's pretty clear that there are those who are there because of Lusanime's evil plan and those who don't know about it, those who attacked you because they received orders that they shouldn't let any invaders in, are the ones that are forgiven and are able to maintain their job in Aether Foundation, that's why the employees are "suddenly" good, because most of them were always good.
If they allowed you to battle the Ultra Beasts then you would be complaining about the other NPCs not caring about Ultra Beasts invading their world and if you wouldn't, I know I would.
Lusanime has an obsession with Ultra Beats because she thinks her husband died because of them, so she ended up "loving" them, because its easier to accept her husband's death if she is also obsessed with UBs and if she believes that what killed her husband deserves to be forgiven.

If you ever do a new playthrough:
>Talk to post-game Gladion
>Don't mash the A button when Lillie is talking about her mother
>Talk to the Aether employees during the invasion
>Talk to one of the scientists in Burnet's lab
>Hear what Wicke has to say when you're going to the 4th island.

You could have complained about real faults like Gladion-Lillie's interactions, Faba being forgiven and the rushed 4th Island, for example. But no, you had to complain about things you didn't understand because you simply didn't read.

No it doesn't. Wicke is both administrative staff and a member of the Pokemon equivalent of the CIA. Some employees go on the defensive, yes, because your party is essentially showing up to go assault the President of the foundation (and her employees don't know she's gone insane and intends to fuck up the world).

She makes trophies of the things she deems beautiful and wanted Ultra Beasts released to she could claim them all as trophies.

But they literally don't and you personally have to go catch the UBs yourself and the International Police explain to you why you in particular are requested for the job. Did you just toss the console after credits?

They weren't bad in the first place, for the most part. The ones with ties to Team Skull were probably arrested and/or fired when Wicke and Gladion cleaned house.

Correction: She was already insane when she lost her husband. Lillie ran away with Cosmog to stop Lusamine from using it. Lillie and Gladion already had issues with Lusamine, and Lillie was both sheltered from the rest of the world and was exposed to the suffering of pokemon, which is why she hated battling.

The game writting is fine, it's probably better than all of the other pokemon games, but then again pokemon has never been well written because it's always been the same formula for all of the games
before gen 7

>Beat gyms and get medals
>Meet the evil team and put a stop to them
>beat league and become champion
>go back to your home
And it was even worse before gen 5 because they didn't even bother to make the gym leaders do anything outside their gyms.

How the fuck would the player know that loads of UBs came out? By the time they find out that there are UBs running rampant that weren't taken care of by the Tapus/Kahunas, you're already on the quest to actually take them down.

It's been established that Lusamine is only the head of the Alola branch of Aether. Her actions don't represent the entire organization.

In the past, Nihilego appeared in Alola and fucked Lusamine and Mohn up to the point where the former becomes obsessed with them and the latter loses his memories. This explains why Lusamine dresses Lillie up to look like Nihilego and why she invested so much into the Beast Killer and Beast Ball projects.

Yeah kind of a bummer, but it wouldn't make sense for one kid to save 4 islands from being invaded all at once. You still get to battle the UBs postgame.

As before, Aether is not evil. Lusamine was evil, Faba was self-interested, and a few grunts become cartoonishly evil because of irrelevant grunt reasons. Wicke is not evil and other grunts were just minding their own business and truly have good intentions in helping Pokémon.
