They dont shove down your throat what each individual building is
If you ask some random person on the street to find a place where your pokemon would heal, I would bet their first instinct isnt the pokemon center but any random amount of buildings
HMs for a majority sucked, and Sun and Moon did good by making them both TM's and non essential
It IS kind of annoying that most of your players motivation is through other characters. But then again, you had no motivation to go after Giovanni except that they existed and were doing bad stuff like steal pokemon. They were simply on the way. Any motivation you put on that can be also done in S/M, so by extension, you have more motivation in S/M because you have friends who got scorn. Thinking about that, Team Rocket didnt really personally blight you any more than Skull did, and hell, Skull did kidnap Lillie, whos supposed to be your friend. Also Po Town was better than Sliph Co or the Game Corner, but it didnt have any fun gimmicks like Teleporting or Sliding panels so Po Town loses some points
Difficulty wise ? Eh. The EXP share IS turned on for you automatically, and its an option. And if you turn it on, you basically can run through the game with a balanced team. Some Totems are hard, only because of stat gains. And Elite Four is decently challenging, only again because of overleveling.
Gen 1 HAD no post game. S/M has some. Not compared to B/W, but some.
