Unova, Kalos and Alola are all regions that aren't based on Japanese locations like Kanto, Johto, Hoenn, ans Sinnoh are based, and some NPC since Black and White have varying shades of brown (Just like the character customization in X & Y.)
I'm just saying, If you are going to imply a race to a person then at least enforce it or show it. even if the art is cookie cutter stylized.
This is what I usually hate about games (and other forms of media) that are from japan, they never full give detail about a thing, person or subject, everything is assumed (poorly too). I'm not saying to outright explain things but to at least imply it clearly.
