Ultimate weapon have both powers, Xerneas' (give life energy) and Yveltal's (take life energy), the legendary is just a "battery" for the weapon, which can give or take life energy regardless of which "battery" uses

Lysandre plan is to kill those who make the world a worse place (taking energy as Yveltal do) and make the Team Flare immortal (giving energy as Xerneas do) to preserve a new beautiful world, the only difference between X and Y version is Lysandre's last resort after you beat him. In X he orders the weapon give life, in Y he orders take life.

Was Lysandre being evil supposed to be a twist or not? I knew he was the bad guy before he even opened his mouth. At least they tried to keep Ghetsis and Lusamine somewhat believable for a while.

I think that's how it's meant to come across in the Generations episode at least. It felt somewhat more believable there until the Project Y thing came up and he's like "Fuck you, keep giving me money for my secret plans."
