Anon, it's still an Ariados. A slight buff to stats an a string shot that only adds regular poison isn't going to make it OU or UU.

At the end of the day, it's still just a 400 BST pokémon with 40 speed. A signature move/small BST buff is appreciated but there's not much they can do besides giving it an evolution/mega.

I've been using it as an unconventional hazzard setter.

Sticky web, toxic spikes, toxic thread and leech life (this is a placeholder, still need to find a more useful 4th move).

He's certainly less reliable than Shuckle but I have caught a few people off guard and then given them hell with Merciless Toxapex and Muk with venom drench.

Masquerain is truly the one who made it out like a bandit this gen, +20 Spa and +20 Speed, that's insane

Masquerain is all around better, 80 Speed is very good for in-game and you'll outspeed most of the pokémon except sanic fasts like Crobat, and 100 SpA is very usable

Ariados is kinda slow and doesn't really hit that hard. It has a better typing tho, Bug/Flying weaknesses fucking suck, so go with Ariados if the rest of your team can't cover for Masquerain's weaknesses to Flying, Rock, Electric, Fire and Ice

That's probably the case. Random useless shitmons don't get useless buffs for competitive reasons, it's for story reasons (unless you're Pelipper or Mantine.)

Fuck, Corsola probably got +10 HP/def/SDef to make chaining them for Mareanies slightly less annoying.

Same here, I was so used to Masquerain being a complete shitmon I got blindsided by how he fucking outsped me and Bug Buzz's my ass with a now very decent Base 100 Spa

I know Galvantula is probably better, but many mons I want to use would really appreciate Sticky Web.
Oh, and I just saw Masquerain does get Quiver Dance + Baton Pass...
Fuck, Ariados still looks cooler.

Maaan, it's still really hard to justify using any of them on a competitive setting, even with the buffs.

On competitive, I'd still go with Ariados, 80 base speed is still better than 40 base speed, so at least you have a much better chance of outspeeding something to set Sticky Web. Also it has Intimidate, so it might sometimes be able tot take a physical blow before being down for the count. Make sure to bring a rapid spinner or a defogger, though
