>>30727209Kanto really doesn't allow you 'freedom', it's just a manner of challenging the gyms when you want, which is pointless because the game has a set level progression for the leaders. I love how people paint Kanto as if it were some open world region with zero restrictions. Johto is even more fucked since the levelling progression is terrible meaning half the time you're fighting gym leaders with level 32 and kanto's leaders are jokes, along with it being shelled out and boring.
More content does not mean better postgame. The best postgame is something like Platinum - you have that island to explore, not too big, but big enough, and you have the Frontier, gimped as it is. It doesn't overstay it's welcome, it's fun to explore, and it adds on a good couple hours after you beat the main game.
