#1 being that NSMB, NSMB Wii, and MK Wii together have sold close to 100 million copies. Pokémon franchise as of this past April had only just reached 200 million.
#2 big reason is that Pokémon spinoffs don't sell a fraction of the copies Mario spinoffs do. Even ignoring Mario Kart games, poké-spinoffs rarely went above 500k even on the DS. Far, far less these days.
