All this time I thought everyone was just being a memeing chucklehead similar to when everyone said Snivy was called Smugleaf. I never bothered to look it up, but I'll be damned this thing is actually named Buzzwole.

They actually canonically named a Pokemon after memey buzzword slang. I can't believe it.

It's also confusing who is coming up with the "proper names" for these things. I guess the Pokemon say what their own names are?

Sure, because all the Ultra Beasts are actually saying ??? when they first appear.

No you idiot. Aside from maybe Pikachu no Pokemon actually says their name in the games, unless you have an alien sense of hearing that interprets roars and squeaks as such.

And as for who named them, it was some memester at the Aether Foundation or Interpol.

Lusamine named Nihilego.
Some Aether scientist named Cosmog.
Same with Type: Null.
Gladion named Silvally.
Etc.

That's how it works in the games.

In reference to being buff or muscular, it is. However, it's used appropriately for Buzzwole since it can refer to his physique, and also the fact that it's literally swollen, like a mosquito engorged with blood.
