We came from a time where since 2009, we were just receiving good generation after good generations. We gave XY the benefit of the doubt because, going into 3D for a company like gamefreak was a daunting task. ORAS had huge potential to be by far, the best mainline games ever, and they dropped the ball in many instances.
Don't get me wrong, there are great things that ORAS did such as Blissey Bases, Dexnav, and an Island for easy breeding, but it also dropped the ball on many cases as well such as no oniine contests (with the contests themselves being further casualized, with one judge and a free pikachu with max contest stats), No Gym Leader rematches when even XY had them, and no replacement for the game corner, with other instances too.
So what I'm saying is that ORAS are mostly hated (here) is because of what they could have been.
