Maybe animated sprites weren't really an inherently bad idea, but the way they implemented them was just... obnoxious, the movement was so exaggerated and unnatural. You could attribute it to the low resolutions GF had to work at, but it doesn't change the point I'm trying to make.
I also won't hesitate to admit that I'm also slightly biased because I absolutely despise the Gen 5 sprites for most of my bros and favorite cutemons, the animations only made them worse.
