For starters, Garchomp, Flygon, Metagross and Goodra are not version exclusives. Both Lycanrocs are not version-exclusive either

Second you get duplicates of all legendaries, so pick anything

Do you prefer warm colors or cool colors?
Do you want to easily obtain Pheromosa and Celesteela with total control over IV's and natures or would you rather have Kartana and Buzzswole?
How many of the Pokemon in that image you posted are you planning to have on your main team? Can you live without them?
btw the image is wrong, Gible, Beldum, Trapinch, and Goomy lines are NOT version exclusive.

This is accurate. Your rockruff will only evolve to Midday in Sun and Midnight in Moon, but both evolved variants are available in both games on the 4th island.

i planned on using a vulpix and i really like solgaleo so i went sun
ended up using 3 miniors instead, no vulpix though i did catch one

Its pretty easy to complete the dex using GTS. Honestly the deciding factor should be do I want to use Buzzwole/Pheromosa/Box Legends, competatively? Cause those are the only pokemon you cant breed the correct nature into and you'll need to synch catch in your own game

If you're into the whole waifumon thing go moon. Idk why Beldum is listed as exclusive, I caught one in sun. Honestly though, Ninetales and Lycanroc midday really pushed the choice of sun for me.

Like many Anons said, Flygon, Metagross, Garchomp, and Goodra aren't version exclusive but everything else is. The others version exclusives that the pic lacks are Celesteela (Moon) and Kartana (Sun).

Celesteela is a Skarmory without any stats over 110 but is the best Heavy Slam user due to its weight, while Kartana is an offensive Ferrothorn.

Version exclusives aren't that important because there's the GTS. I picked Sun just because, but now I kinda regret it because I mostly only have time to play past 6 pm and I'm kind of tired of it always being nighttime in the game when I play but I don't want to change my system's clock. Moon's 12 hour difference would have been nice.

I preordered both because I wanted dem badges. I like Sun better overall and its my main file, for the day cycle, the exclusives, the fashion, the male protag is called Sun so it makes sense to have it as my main, etc. Moon has its advantages too though. Drampa is my only "bro" tier mon this gen and it sucks that I have to trade him in. Also ya boi Guzma is exclusive to the Moon Battle Tree. I'll have him hang out with my chicken but it's not quite the same.

So if you get Moon you can soft reset until you get the correct nature (recommended the use of synchronize) and then IV train them instead of trying to get them from the GTS. If you get them from the GTS it's guaranteed that they're not going to have the correct nature

I mean, I don't know where either Lycanroc fits in the competitive meta (in my story run so far he's been pretty terrible at least), but if you want to use one in a competitive setting, you'll be breeding.

Effectively for competitive players, Lycanroc forms are version exclusive.

Then again if you're competitive, I have to imagine you're getting both versions either way.

I haven't tested evolving it when you do the post game time jump thing, but even if that doesn't work I don't really think it would be hard to just trade it to a friend with a rare candy. I don't really think either is worth using on a team though. The bigger reasons to pick a version would probably be the UB's you want since everything else is extremely easy to work around as (opposed to the UB's being only kind of easy to work around.)

Version exclusives are easy to pick up in wonder trade, so I was able to breed the alolan vulpix I received, I could use an alolan vulpix early.
