Platinum and HGSS I can understand. They were good games.

Diamond and Pearl were trash, though. Platinum fixed all the issues.

It's a shame, X and Y were just as trash as Diamond and Pearl but didn't get a third version to fix all those issues. Missed opportunity.

Yep. I didn't even play Emerald until years later because of how shit Ruby and Sapphire were. I actually thought Diamond and Pearl were good at the time since I felt they were a fresh of breath air compared to R/S, but looking back yeah what the fuck were they thinking making it that slow.

It upsets me how poorly thought out the leveling and trainer teams were, because it's by far the prettiest looking game in the series.

The sprites were so vivid and colorful, as was the overworld.

It kind of sickens me how overrated the games are though.

BW are more sound than XY, their its main flaw (the Pokémon) is largely subjective rather than a consequence of dodgy game design.
SM are an improvement over XY in almost every way except for National Dex and competitive team prep.

Though I do agree that DP deserve to be the least beloved games in the series.

Story, characters, regional Dex (feels more self-contained), difficulty, structure, etc.

My main concern is that the early game has been extremely linear, so I need to assess what sorts of things have opened up after the first island.

I'm on the second island and know most of the story and characters from spoilers. I haven't yet investigated in detail how the island can be explored, but it seems there may be more things to do especially with Charizard unlocked.

BW are very soundly designed. They brought a lot of amazing changes and steps forward for the series. However, the new-Pokémon restriction and how lackluster a lot of them are give them "New Coke" syndrome and make them difficult to come back to for some people. Because that's merely subjective, they don't deserve to be called garbage, even if I'd personally rank them below XY.

It should. Its great region, story and characters need to be brought to light again, only add older Pokémon during the main story (even if it's Charizard and pals) so that the crappiness of half the Unova Dex doesn't predominate everything.
