It's made of a glass-like substance that hasn't been properly identified, probably because it's from another dimension.
When I first battled it, I used deductive reasoning to figure out its type. Maybe that's a decent enough explanation, it has all of Rock's (and Poison's) weaknesses and resistances so it was given that type.
