I played on Set with the EXP share off, and man was Kukui hard. I had to use about 30 revival herbs to eek out a win. His Primarina was nightmarish.

I beat him with my boy Zygarde with the help of my Inceneroar and Wishiwashi.

When his Snorlax came out, I knew I won at that moment cause Zygarde walled it easily with Coil+Rest. The latter two did a joint venture in taking out his Ninetails.

I played the same and just finished as well.
I only beat him on the second attempt, it was pretty brutal when he was more than 10 levels ahead of me.
Also the first time the finishing blow was from Disguised Minerals.
Ninetales and Golisopod got overleveled from carrying me through E4.

Don't understand why people switch off exp share.
It just takes out a lot of tedium from raising your pokes. Instead of autistically grinding for hours before/after every town to get everything to one level, it just goes as you go along.
I really like it.
The old games I only play on emulator anymore because I can speed up and thus make grinding at least quick.

I second this. This E4 was more challenging than I thought it would (the fighting one at least, and the flying one was quite hard too), but the professor really tore some holes in my team (decidueye-sundoggo-alolan raichu-salazzle-crabominable-golisopod). My team was all around 56 (and because I grinded a little before the league, when facing Gladion I was quite underleveled).

I don't remember Braviary doing anything on me. Mostly because it was always nuked by Vikavolt whenever it showed its face. It was his only Pokemon that had literally zero impact on the battle.

yeah if they don't want to give EVs to some other pokemon in their party you retard

turning it off otherwise is literally just shooting yourself in the foot to make up for GF's bad balancing. If they wanted a hard mode they would literally just put an ACTUAL hard mode right on the main menu clear as day before you even start up the game.

Except it's not. Never in the game do they say this. It's just an unbalanced item and GF bootlickers like you think it's somehow supposed to be a difficulty switch when really it's just bad game design.

I'm not going to argue that it isn't bad game design, but the fact the exp share is able to toggle between on and off is pretty clearly a difficulty switch, it's not stated outright so that kids who want to play through the game casually don't have to worry about it while older players like us who desire a hard mode know that by toggling it off the game becomes harder

They even say pressing the "B" button stops your Pokemon from evolving. But you CHOOSE to evolve your Pokemon to make the game easier. But you CHOOSE to turn the EXP Share off.

Its because with Gen 6 not being balanced around the EXP share at all (its actually balance around using the Lucky Egg with EXP share turned off), you either end up hilariously overleveled or underleveled.

So when SM came around, people (like me) just instinctively turned off the EXP share in fears it would have XY shit tier level scailing.

I agree that exp is lame if you leave it on the entire game but if you dont use it all you are really putting yourself behind.

You may think you are hardcore for that but by using 30 revives you are essentially negating any difficulty that you wanted by turning off exp share. That is just a waste of time and alot less fun than fighting them the right way by being within one or two levels of the trainers Pokemon

OP Kukui is impossible to beat. I fought him with a team of level 20 Pokemon and he just kicked my ass

If you need to make self-imposed challenges to make up for the lack of "hard mode," that's bad game design.

If you're saying turning off the EXP Share is hard mode, what's to say choosing not to evolve your Pokemon is also hard mode?
What's to say not using Pokemon Centers is also hard mode?
What's to say not using TMs or completing the game under a self-imposed 10 hour time limit is also hard mode?

Those are ALL ways of making your own hard mode, I'm not trying to say that turning exp share off is the definitive hard mode experience, but it is an option

I seemed to have a hard time with fucking everything in this game, my team's types were very imbalanced and didn't patch up each other's weaknesses well. Fuck, all the Elite 4 members were super effective against them except for Acerola.

That Braviary is bulky as fuck and even after fainting it gives trouble thanks to Tailwind support.

You must have hated Gen 2 and the remakes then because that level curve is insane. Most games have the champion or E4 be the jump in levels but GS/HGSS had that jump throughout the game.
