Jolteon was kinda viable in gen 1, pretty viable in gen 3/4, got powercucked by Thundurus in gen 5 and got double cucked by Koko in 7.
Vaporeon was good in gen 2/3/4 but got powercrept in 5
Umbreon was solid in gen 2, a mainstay in 3, usable in 4 but got powercrept in 5
Espeon is actually an ascendant eeveelution, was always known for being bad-alakazam until gen 5.5 gave it Magic Bounce which suddenly gave it a niche. Gen 6 kind of rained on its parade with M-Sableye but it's still one of the best pass receivers due to magic bounce + stored power.
