I don't think I've been on this board before, as I haven't played a Pokemon game since Diamond and Pearl. I've heard good things about the new Sun and Moon and was thinking about jumping into it, but I'm a little unsure.

Just how much did Pokemon Sun and Moon shake things up? I heard that there's impressive character customization, there is an actual story to the game, and that combat can take some getting used. I know that there are new types, so between learning the new Pokemon and discovering their types there might be a genuinely fun learning curve to this game.

How does the online scene fare (with character customization can we finally see other players in game?)? I know improvements out the ass should be in place, are there online tournaments and the like for the game? I feel like the online side of the game is where I'll spend a lot of time, since Pokemon games tend not to have large post-games, at least not since Gold and Silver.
