Smogon is the only place with ez cheat sheets and explanations for dummies. It's a very good resource. I use it, and we all fucking know the majority of people here use it - even the ones who bitch. Nobody is saying you should obey their rules, use their site or even play on showdown etc.
Boycotting them is ridiculous, play vgc or anything goes if you must use their stupid shit.
The only complaint I have in general is that it causes a split between people who don't give a fuck about fucking rules in a childrens game, and people who think their shit don't stink. Let's be honest, people who religiously follow smogon are the most self entitled smogon bible-bashers who try shoving their shit down your throat all the time - which caused the big part of hatred towards smogon. God I'm glad I don't battle friends anymore, even they would whine about item clause when I had 2 mon with leftovers or something fucking retardedly specific to be pedantic about.
