Brionne is transitioning into its final stage, which is why it looks like it's kind of stuck in between design wise. It's not Fairy type, but it's definitely heading there.
Asides from some pokemon who were attributed the Fairy type and already existed, Fairy types are almost always designed in such a way that makes them look either bright, pink, cute or girly looking. And of course, the Popplio line just happened to fall into some of those categories. Even the most threatening looking Fairy type look at least cutesy to a degree.
It is a curse, I'm afraid, one that I don't think will end so soon, since they are now trying to pad out the "void" with more Fairy types than usual, to make up for past generations, as if they always belonged in the series.
It's odd, I like the type and to a extent, what it is, but at the same time, the majority of its designs are now looking like they're all the same to me, bar the pokemon that got the type from previous generations.
