Generations showed that Hilbert was the protagonist of the White/White 2 universe, so maybe Hilda is the protagonist of the Black/Black 2 universe. Calem is the protagonist of the Y universe, so maybe Serena is the protagonist of the X universe. Platinum was what was shown in Generations, so they avoided showing a protagonist in fear of it being the "definitive" protagonist of that Generation. All the other episodes could be paired games.
