I don't think anyone actually outright said Mohn is their father. It's just a matter of connecting the pieces. One of the researchers is named Mohn, people stuck in Ultra Wormhole/Space gets amnesia and generally only remember their name and a few, but important, details about themselves, Gladion and Lillie's father was presumed lost in an experiment, and so forth.

Well, the thing is, Pelago is entirely optional, as well as some of the in-game lore about him being a scientist. They can't make people go to Pelago nor read the reports, so they can't assume this is something obvious. It's more of an Easter Egg for 100% everything.
