I am terrible at nicknames. So the worse, the better. Often, it's just whatever comes to mind, like Pachinko the Whimsicott. Occasionally there's a theme, but it's a really weird theme where individual names often have no context, like household objects or something. Or really obscure references, such as a blue Gastrodon I named "Blooblur" after the slightly memetic pronunciation of "blue blur" from that Sonic Fan Film a few years back.
