Second, it look DP 16 episodes for Ash to reach his first gym battle

It's tough to compare ratings from SM debut to XY debut three years ago since TV ratings are on a decline in general.

A good way is to compare it to the competition, while they don't air in the same timeslot it's a way to gauge interest.

XY was losing to Yokai Watch consistently near it's tail end. It's part of the reason why they probably felt the need to change the anime so drastically. However Yokai Watch has yet to top SM in the ratings since it's debut. Obviously there's not much of a sample size to work it but the ratings certainly aren't tanking.

We hated XYZ because they had promised all the crappy episodes we had to endure will be worth it. That XYZ will be different from all the past seasons. It gave out nothing but hype and tried to present itself as grown up with more shounen-like elements and top grade waifu-bait. Only to have it all come crashing down with Ash losing once more and Serena leaving. It's the /vp/ equivalent of No Man's Sky. The final arc wasn't the only bad element of the season but a representative of XYZ in general. All flash, no substance.

I keep forgetting that people who were underage when Gen 4 rolled around are old enough to post on this site now. Newsflash: Gen 4 was terrible. Diamond and Pearl were actually shit. Japanese TV ratings get published for the top 10 highest rated shows a given week for a number of categories, one of which is cartoons. There's about 80 different cartoon shows airing a week, and Pokemon is almost always in the top 10, which is how people know what the ratings are in the first place. And top 10 out of 80 is pretty damn solid. Only a few cartoons do better.

The rating bitching is just people misrepresenting facts by comparing the numbers themselves with what they were 10 years ago, when people watched more live TV and all shows had higher ratings. Literally just "if I spam something that isn't true enough times, people will get mad and that's funny" autism.

Because XY's start was extremely strong. The two first episodes being as good as they were is what led a LOT of people to pick up the anime again. The attitude towards the show was extremely positive at the time, and it had already set up multiple angles that people were genuinely interested in.

SM has none of that, and half the time the people that claim to love what SM is doing seem more interested in shitting on XY than on discussing the show itself. The difference is night and day.

Lillie by SM 07 has a established backstory behind her phobia of Pokemon and will clearly have a role later on involving her phobia which was likely caused by Lusamine being a shit.

I would suggest waiting until SM is at least 60 episodes in before you start making such comparisons by using such characters.

Winning a league isn't Ash's goal, being a Pokemon Master is. He's stated before that winning a league won't make him a Pokemon Master, it'll just bring him one step closer to becoming one.

He's already won the Orange League and the Battle Frontier, and in the latter, he was offered a chance to become a Frontier Brain, but turned it down so he could keep travelling.

Win or lose, Ash will keep travelling around the world, because "Pokemon Master" is an intentionally nebulous goal to keep the show going as long as as necessary (read: as long as the Pokemon franchise lives). As long as the Pokemon franchise continues, so will Ash and Pikachu's adventures.

It's become a recent trend for generations with good games to have shitty anime, and vice versa.

Gen 5 was one of the high points of the game series, and had one of the worst anime seasons.

Gen 6 is currently the lowest point of the game series, and as such had the best anime, even if it all went to hell when they made Ash lose the league for the sixth time in a row.

Gen 7, while not my favorite, is a notable step up from XY and ORAS in the game department, so obviously the anime has to get worse.

Pokemon Master basically meant "the best Pokemon trainer ever", and only made sense in a game context back in gen 1 and 2, where the Indigo Elite Four was presented as the only Elite Four in the world.
After later gens introduced the idea that each region has their own E4 and Champion and that beating them doesn't even make you the best trainer in the country, they quietly ditched the term.

What Ash is chasing is the title of "best Pokemon Trainer in the world".

I.E. Something that'd realistically take a lifetime to achieve, if it's even possible at all.

And even if he did achieve it, it's still just a title and would mean nothing compared to all the experiences he's had and friends he's made along the way.
