Well, they'd have to include a lot of logic for how pokemon can follow you since some might be too big to maneuver as well as you do.

They already figured out the size issue in HGSS. Generally large pokemon like Wailord are about twice the size of most pokemon, and they get placed back into the ball if the player enters a building.
