Gen 4 had an outstanding soundtrack, whatever other issues you have with it. It's one of my least favorite gens, but I'll freely acknowledge its good points.

The composition was terrible and the few that were acceptable were either incredibly dull, marred by the sound font, or thematically distant from the theme of pokemon.

Seafolk Village has a nice theme, but a lot of the music in SM is "uuh.. yeah.." or "heeeeyo ooga booga" bullshit. It's a shame, because some of them would be great without that tribal junk.

what's "tribal" about Aether Foundation, either Lusamine theme, the Skull themes, Gladion, the Champion theme, Hau, or Ultra Space? I can onlythink of the majority of route music, the totem battles theme, and MAYBE the E4 theme which is tops btw

Sun/Moon's soundtrack is good when it deviates from generic orchestra riffs. The good stuff is literally everything that isn't that. Poni Canyon, Team Skull, Aether Foundation, town themes (night versions especially)

The ride themes are terrible (except for Lapras)

I fucking hate that happy hour tone of the themes, the first 3 gens did this pretty good, but after Barry every single rival song was like holding hands and watch butterflies fly.

Hau's theme mirrors his friendly nature but it's still much too energetic to be picnic tier.
The Kahuna theme starts out tense yet eases up as it goes on without losing the meaning of the theme with parts scattered between to remind you that you're still in a trial
