Why is Gamefreak's official format 4v4 doubles when the game, anime, manga and basically everything related to Pokemon in existence shills singles?

Since singles is incredibly broken. Somebody can power up a whole lot and if they get lucky they can just sweep the entire opponent's team. Doubles eliminates that by allowing you to only attack one opponent at a time, or attack both but with weaker moves. It makes it so that all threats are possible to be dealt with.

Man, most of the centralizing stuff in doubles is banned in singles, and the OU mons are often too one dimensional to be consistent in doubles.

Lando T, Garchomp and heatran are the only OU consistent mons in both formats. Don't try to sell the terminology of OU when you don't even know of the centralization in doubles.

Because it's harder to make a 'mon broken in Doubles, battles moves faster, and you don't get as much Funbro-tier bullshit. The last one is actually why the switch was made in the first place and also why Struggle eats up 25% of your maximum HP on each use instead of a percentage of damage dealt: some chucklehead cheesed official tourneys with Wobbuffet to force Struggle wars.

That still doesn't make the point moot though. If Gamefreak's official format is doubles, I don't see why they don't make it a central part of the main game and, as such, try to push more players towards the competitive scene. They're already TRYING to turn more players than ever to the competitive scene, so making the main game based on double battles (or at least focus a big part of it on double battles, like 50% or so) would do a better job at it.

But I remember reading some years ago in a interview that the only reason is doubles is faster. They first wanted to use singles, but realized battles were very long for the tournaments, so they ended up using doubles.

And Pachirisu was a niche pick in a very limited pool of Pokémon, Pachirisu was only considered because he thought amoongus would be too predictable.

Also Gothithelle did all the fucking work not that stupid rat, stop trying to push that squirrel, if you are going to praise that guy then praise Gothitrap for fucking the other players silly at team preview.

Well, a bunch of the pivotal story fights in this game were doubles with AI partners, or just regular doubles, so they might very well be trying to do this, slower than we'd like, however.

Make trainers doube battles and wild Pokemon single battles.

Options in battle facilities and online for single battles would still exist, of course, but focusing a game almost entirely on double battles would definitely push more people towards the competitive scene, which is what Gamefreak has been trying to accomplish since Gen 4.

If you mean the way of obtaining EVs for competitive, then notice how GF has been adding things like super training and the pelago, so perhaps they should continue making it easier to spec EVs once you complete the story.

They still will.

With only 3 Pokemon there is no room to counter things properly, and little room for switches and plays in general. What you bring to the battle becomes a lot more important than your decisions in the battle itself, which are most of the time very obvious and the outcome predictable.
