Go into theb menu and choose "QR codes".You then scan pretty much any QR code you want and a pokemon will appear on the island you're currently on.Catch it,and you're good

Use these, they should give 20 points for one, so you can get two scans from one stockpile of points.

What counts towards the goal amyway? Do I need to catch the mons or just reveal them?
Also for the participation prize do I actually need to scan some or signing up is enough?

Basically, it allows you to find pokemon that are otherwise unobatainable once you rack up 100 points. Examples are the Johto starters and even a fully evolved Conkeldurr.
