It's fun to just pick up and play through in under half a week, experimenting with different teams and movesets. Most of the other games are a fucking slog on future playthroughs, but RBY is just always fun for some odd reason.

It basically shaped my entire childhood and I had friendships founded almost entirely on the games.
Created a lot of happy memories
The gen included my favourite Pokemon, pic related.

Does /vp/ just hate Gen 1 because they weren't yet born to experience it?

I was there and played a japanese version of pokemon red.m, but playing each newer game has spoiled me to the point that RBY are dusty

But, in all honestly, there is no reason to ever replay besides nostalgia. The game was so lopsided and moves were so primative that FRLG improves in almost every way

Only downside to Kanto is the non-special split and shitty move polls. FR/LG mostly fixes those problems, though.

FR/LG is best game 2nd to HG/SS.

Unova is literally a straight shot the whole way through while in Kanto you can go pretty much anywhere after the 3rd Gym.

Yeah, taking all of the cool mechanics that make catching pokemon fun and throwing them away and replacing them with nearly nothing is great!
