>>31064038Before Gen 7, the game would generate eggs ahead of time, so soft resetting didn't affect the outcome, but changing parents would. Somebody discovered that as of Sun and Moon, you can change parents and as long as certain requirements were met, the game won't reroll the egg. This means you can breed Magikarp to get certain IV inheritance like Father/x/Mother/Mother/Father/Mother or even shininess and then reset and swap the Magikarp for another Pokemon and in the same number of eggs you would get the exact same IVs and Shininess.
