How come BW/BW2 had such an amazing plot and then in XY we go back to mediocrity?
SM did a better job but it's still no where near to BW/BW2.

Probably because the story and atmosphere was done in BW to differentiate it from fourth gen because it's on the same hardware, but for XY Game Freak probably figured it was different enough so they didn't have to put effort into the story or characters. Probably.

I liked BW for the meta stuff - i.e. questioning the ethics of training Pokémon - but its characters are all really flimsy when treated with any kind of scrutiny, and the plot suffers from a lack of momentum until its final moments

SM had a pretty interesting main cast in concept, but too many of its key characters are drawn with a broad brush to make them truly compelling - Lusamine showed so much promise but ended up being just as undeveloped as Lysandre

I played easy mode.
it is actually more challenging then challenge mode but not because of the shitty level scaling. its because pokemon on easy mode have shit IV spreads where as in challenge mode you have at least 2-3 full ones guaranteed.

The new designs are the reason why normies and fags hate gen 5, specially since BW1 only has gen 5 shit during the main game.
BW feels so fucking amazing to play. Everything is fast, the animated sprites are godlike if you can stand pixels and the exp curve is great. Also the volt white blaze black rom hacks are fucking great with the challenge mode setting.

Speaking of the difficulty settings, is it true that easy mode is bugged? I heard that gamefreak messed up and made it so that the trainers had lower leveled pokemon but kept the stats of the original level, making it actually harder than challenge mode since you get less exp due to the curve.

The only Generation 5 Pokémon that are truly bad are the Vaniluxe line, Garbodor line, Amoongus line and the Klinklang line. That's only 10 Pokémon, yet everyone kept whining for YEARS about how "the entire games are so fucking horrible" just because of this tiny handful of Pokémon, all the while the Generation 1 Pokédex had so many worse Pokémon. But "muh nostalgia" and "muh Gen 1 is perrfect" ruined the entire generation's image.

Generation 1 literally have only a small handful of good Pokémon designs. The rest is either real-life animals, creepy and disgusting humanoids or objects/stuff that lives. It is 7/7 the worst generation there is in terms of Pokémon designs. It even has 4 Pokémon that are literally just recolours of each other.

It's not fact, it's just how me and clearly MANY other people perceive those designs and I don't understand how whining about our opinions every day is going to help you. No other gen had such a strong reaction from the fans concerning the designs when they came out. /vp/ can meme about the Gen IV dex all they want now, but the reaction to the new Pokemon was pretty measured when people first saw them. Gen V was the first gen were LOTS people were up in arms from the get go about how shitty the mons looked. That didn't just happen for Gen V and not the previous gens out of bad luck, it happened because the Gen V Pokemon designs looked very different, and to many of us it was not in a good way.

Eevee's gimmick is that it can evolve into various forms.
The gimmick of the monkeys are their typings. And it's not even a decent gimmick like Oricorio's. They're 3 copy pasta'd monkey recolors with minimum differences between each other but different enough to occupy 3 pokedex entries. And then they also got 3 fucking evolutions that follow the same pattern.
They exist just to teach kids about typing and fucking stone evolution.

X/Y had to spend more time creating new 3D models for all currrent 721 pokemon among other things and it gave them less time to work on their writing. That and I personally do not expect to enjoy a Pokemon game's story as much as B/W and I accept that. S/M did a damn good job though.

Tbh say what you will about the games and the plots, but at least the teams made sense. The only other game that made sense was platinum, but that is stretching it a tad.

I didn't like BW2's story. I thought BW had a much better story. The super science messing with Pokemon angle is overplayed. I also thought Colress was an incredibly forgettable villain and Dennis's final encounter was nowhere near as climactic as his final encounter in BW.

XY would probably have a great plot if they tried. Lysandre has great elements that were handled well in other media, and the friends could have been not-as-shit if they got more development. It could have been a fun journey with them.

The XY we got feels like a rough draft to a much better story.

like it or hate it you have to admit BW tried to do something different and memorable, and ended up being much more ambitious or big than anything that came before it really (in some ways it doesnt even feel like a Pokemon game). But since it got such a mixed reception GF immediately backpedaled into the status quo for in BW2.
And in XY they just gave up entirely and gave us shallow forced pandering with zero heart in it.
