Can we stop this fucking meme? In a series lasting 20 years, only 4 NPCs have been strong enough to become Champions. 3 of them were confident in their abilities and had resolve of steel.

Lillie is not strong. She just started. She doesn't have the personality to be a strong trainer, let alone a Champion.

depends on how far in the future the next game takes place

what would even be the average time for a trainer to go from a level 5 starter to becoming champion? has pokemon ever touched on something like that?

Does it matter? Trainers like Volkner, who've been a Gym Leader for years, can't even become the Champion. Some literally who isn't going to, if they aren't the protagonist.

These ones didn't exactly "become" champions. They were already the champions when the games started.

There are still hundreds of them. May, Wally, Silver, Barry, Hau, literally all of the NPC you meet in Victory Road. It's not easy to become a Champion.

In SM the youngster on the first route can challenge you for the champion title, the Alola E4 lost to a 6-8 year old boy I'm sure anyone can tough it out and become a champ.
