It's hard to objectively rate Pokemon games relative to each other because they're all the same shit with different coats of paint. People here just nitpick on the details.

Plus, since every single one of the games can be emulated you can just hack in your favorite mons to run through the game with if you find the designs to be too shit for your tastes.

I think all the games are good. Just some more than others. Diamond and Pearl are the worst for their standards at the time though, they were a bit weak even then, let alone now (or after Platinum).

I want to do another run of Sun once the Bank updates though, I really liked it on my first playthrough but I'm interested to see how I feel on round 2. The Gen 5 games overall are my favourites still right now.

Pokemon is a constant for me. 2016 was a shit year for video games and Sun came along and became my GOTY. I can always rely on Pokemon.

For comparison, look at FF15. Ended up being shit after 10 years of development and even then it's one of the better games of 2016.

In terms of improvement over the previous generation, I don't see how there's any argument at all for Gen 3 not being the best. The only "arguments" I hear against it are meme-tier shit (trumpets).

It was just kind of forgetable imo. Despite being the 2nd to last pokemon game I've played, I barely remember any of it. Just a lot of meh stuff in it. There are some stuff I like, such as being able to SR for most of the legendaries and being able to fly on mega latias / latios, but I was just kind of disapointed with it over all. Its not a bad game, just not that great.

Gen 2 was the best, remakes just improved it all so they're clearly #1 Platinum sure. SUN AND MOON FUCKING SUCK. So did black/white/b2/w2. X and Y were good, D/P/Pt were ok.

To give you an idea of my tastes so that I can get a helpful reply, DPPt were some of my least favorite games. I've been playing since RBY.

HG/SS are the only Gen IV games I really like because they aren't as slow as the Sinnoh games. DP is also my least favorite set of games and I've also been playing since RBY. I just replayed through SS again and had a great time where I struggle to enjoy Platinum, which has its merits but is still a divisive game to me in terms of good/bad.
