>>31134426I've actually listed some reasons in my head as to why Mimikyu's such a well-loved Pokemon. I have plenty of time to think about shit like this when I'm at work.
1. A relatable backstory; everybody wants to be loved and accepted, so they sympathize with Mimikyu, who feels like a loner in its world and works hard to garner a little positive attention for itself
2. Alternate personality interpretation; can be seen as a lonely little guy who just wants a friend, like in the Mimikyu Song, or as a psychopathic demon that attacks Pikachu on sight due to sheer uncontrollable envy and rage, like in the anime; in other words, it's as much of a cute fairy for girls as it is a cool ghost for boys
3. It's "customizable"; fans can have a fun time drawing Mimikyu in different costumes due to its very nature of shrouding itself in cloth
4. Its true identity is ambiguous; similar to the above point, fans can also have a fun time speculating what it looks like under the sheet
5. It's a really strong Pokemon thanks to its great typing, great unique ability, and fairly versatile movepool
They really hit a goldmine with this Pokemon. Sorry for the autistic text dump, I just felt like this was a good place to share my thoughts.
