Grass/ground turtle has nothing but it's okay design going for it.
Infernape is literally ghetto blaziken.
And empoleon is one of the few pokemon who have access to swift swim that is never used on rain teams because it excels at nothing.

Literally the worst group of starters in any gen and one of the few flaws of gen 4.

Infernape was the first time we got fire/fighting AGAIN, and the design just embodies that typing so plainly. It looks like it fights and it looks like a fire-type. There's nothing interesting about it. Making his head just be on fire is the most basic way to say "this is a fire-type" there is. Yeah, I get it. Journey to the West. One of the most tired fantasy references there is. Great.

Blaziken is only better due to it's HA though. Infernape outclassed it before Hidden Abilities were introduced. And even then, Infernape still has a more flexible movepool.
