In Alola? Ash's Pokedex is a literal ignorant Pokemon that doesn't know anything, it was literally surprised that Pikachu when provoked unleashed electric attacks. And yes the new Pokedex engages in worthless conversation instead of just doing its task. This new Pokedex is just as annoying as Omochao from Sonic.
Also the writers/animators must have known how annoying the new Pokedex was going to be because the ending song of Pokemon Sun/Moon has Ash dancing and next to him the Pokedex is getting set on fire, electrocuted, and physically beat up.
