GB advance -> Kanto
Nintendo DS -> Johto
Nintendo 3DS -> Hoenn
It seems that when there is a console generatrion of nintendo lenght too much GF first market up a trial generation for that console (gen1, gen4 and gen6) and then they develop a generation that uses the full potential of that console (gen2, gen5 and gen7 respectively).
So probably the next games could be:
>Pokemon sun2/moon2 (mirroring gen5)>*maybe* a new type pokemon game for the main line (if this console gen lenghts too much, not a remake)>The 2 main games for Gen8 that launchs the Nintendo Switch (meaning that this is a trial gen) with the clasical new region and pokemons>The hoenn remakes for Switch>2 new main games for gen9 that uses the full potential of the Nintendo Switch, releasing a new region and pokemons again
