They can't define a 100% canon, especially with the new plot elements they introduce every gen. Sun and Moon bring prominent elements in there, especially with the wormholes, the alternate Day/Night world, etc., which even if the protag does not visit, is an alternate universe.
So many alternate universes with minor differences and more being introduced, it really is a pointless endeavor to try and state one specific timeline as the only possible one.
