And the people who are indifferent really are the ones to suffer because instead of getting something that would actually be a cool arc, they get something that's deliberately pandering to one market and piss off another.
If the recton is put in place because a story that they found very interesting wouldn't work with that piece of continuity, like Eon for example, then fine. But don't retcon something just for the sake of disliking what it did.
