My guess is Ninetales is kind of meant to be able to wield Psychic/Ghost abilities and in the anime had a few episodes where it's associated with Shinto shrines/folkloric stuff. So whereas they went all the way with Arcanine and its species is identified as a "Legendary Pokemon", Ninetales is a slightly different take where in and of itself it's the stuff of legends.

I vaguely remember as a young child playing gen 1&2 half the time I would see the start and end of the name and just sort of half ass whatever was in the middle. The one example I can actually remember was instead of "chikorita" I would say/think "chi-kot-ri-ka"

Then one day I remember being all like "hold the phone, I can actually fucking read and that clearly says chik-o-rita"

Usually it's Exeggutor as "Eggsacuter", sometimes it's worse. I remember I heard some dude miss a whole syllabal in there but I forget how he said it. It was appalling.

For some reason I always pronounced Hydreigon as Hydredgion. I think I got it confused with Drudgion since they're from the same Gen.

It's just Persian. They didn't even bother to change the spelling like they did with Muk and Seel. It's just...Persian. Why?
