Most BL stuff was and is good in OU, just doesn't have the usage. Only a couple things were truly in limbo.

Y-zard is great in OU, people just don't use it.

still can't switch and isn't a reliable check
and last time I checked charY ran EQ or focus punch specifically for heatran, but I've been out of competitive for a while
point is that heatran is a very shaky check, and there are many options do deal with it

It's no surprise, considering how deep the hatred for it has been since Advance. Baton Pass might be more of a problem now, but it doesn't surprise me that many of their staff are beyond pleased that they're able to ban it.

Their definition of OU is something like you'll statistically see it at least 1 in 20 games on ladder, and no less. That comes out to 3.41% usage, which happens to be around 50-60 Pokemon.

I still don't understand any practical benefits of having Borderline tiers. I understand what they are; things that UU banned, but don't have high usage in OU, but for all intents and purposes they're effectively in OU. Since Borderline doesn't have its own metagame, OU Pokémon and BL Pokémon are allowed and banned in literally the exact same situations.

The only possible reasons I can think of are to discourage new players from considering them as serious threats (which viability rankings are meant to do) and because OU moderators can't be arsed writing an entry for them.

Yes, I understand the definition of borderline and why these are being put there. That doesn't explain why there is any benefit to having a distinction between OU and BL, since whether a Pokémon is OU or BL has literally no impact on the banlist of any metagame.

To re-explain my problem, imagine if Smogon decided to call everything in OU with more than 10% usage "Super OU", but didn't introduce a Super OU metagame on Showdown. They just decided to call it that. Why? What possible benefit does that give?
