>>31295038>Like every prior seriesExactly. XY isn't exceptional in its animation, it's still worse than the average anime, and nothing worth praising or watching for.
Those aren't fleshed out personalities, they're just one-dimensional traits that usually go away, like Eevee's timidness. They're just as one-note as their trainers.
>he was competentNot a personality. His past journeys didn't even exist in this show, it ignored prior seasons more than any other.
Serena meanders because the writer did. He clearly didn't know what to do with her hence the forced recycled contest shit when they ran out of ideas and time. I know this is a difficult concept for XYfags but well-animated =/= interesting.
They didn't have conflict, banter, or any meaningful interaction beyond a few scenes, and their relationships didn't develop in the slightest. They started and ended with what could best be described as "amicable," besides Serena's last minute gesture.
The romance itself doesn't develop until the end. It's clueless Ash and beta Serena from start to finish. He doesn't develop any feelings, she doesn't make any attempt to make her feelings known. Nothing happens until the last second.
Shota being different doesn't make him interesting. His loss was nonsense because he got distracted, he was the clear superior all along, it never felt like he was at risk, and there was nothing satisfying about his millionth final victory. Ash had no quarrel at all with Alain, it was just a friendly match that ended up invalidating the entire Greninja arc as I explained.
A conventional mega wouldn't be forced as fuck. The form being a special snowflake is precisely what makes the loss so infuriating, and forcing it into the show didn't even accomplish anything, making it even more pointless.
