Let's discuss something i noticed about Gen 7. I really like Gen 7, most pokemons either have good design, cool typing, or both. However there's something quite unpleasant i noticed during the marketing campaign and hype before the game release: Gamefreak is trying to give personality to pokemons. Think about it. All pokemons revealed in the trailers have some quirks, some funny animations, something particular that makes them interesting. This is just wrong. Design, typing and usefulness are literally the only thing that should matter in making a good pokemon. Pokemons are supposed to be battle monsters. They aren't retarded steven universe characters, all they need to do is: look cool and kick ass. That's it. There are a ton of cool pokemons in Gen 5. (or if you hate unovabortions, just replace "gen 5" with your favorite gen.) However, Gen 7 only has about 70 pokemons. And most of these were revealed pre-released. And all the pokemons that were NOT revealed are the ones that don't have "personality". Golisopod doesn't have some stupid backstory or funny animations, it just looks badass and kicks ass, and that's why it's fucking awesome. That's how a pokemon should be. Don't get me wrong, as i said i like most of Gen 7. However, i am worried about this stuff. Maybe they're doing this because Gen 7 has few pokemons, so they try to make those few pokemons more appealing, and that's perfectly ok. I just hope they don't scrap cool pokemons just because they can't fit with this new "personality thing". It's hard to imagine pokemons like Volcarona and Hydreigon in Gen 7, and Golisopod is the only one that could fit well in Gen 5.

I don't recall the likes of Passimian, Vikavolt, or Mudsdale being like this. It mainly applies to the starters and a few others like Mimikyu. I wouldn't even say it applies to most of them, and almost all the Bug types would be at home in Gen 5.

They created the worst sets of starters for me due to them being RPG characters but Golisopod is a great simple concept. The problem stems from going into very deep characteristics and personalities. If they have a good defined trait and leave the rest up to imagination I like it
Let me pretend how I am in this world and how things interact in it
