Role Play is called "Change Appearance" in Japanese.

It's not just copying the opponent's ability, it's literally changing its appearance to look like the opposing Pokemon.

Which is easy for a magician and a ninja to do, but Chesnaught is a straight-up brawler with no magical powers.

Not technically, though their purpose is kind of similar. A paladin is like an old-time police officer who upheld the law and in some cases were more like a hero whereas a knight is more like an old-time military solider who did what he was told no questions asked.

So in that sense, Chesnaught is more like a knight.
