The show doesn't need to be all forward pressing plot the entire time. The setting is about just existing and dealing with the situation they've been thrown into. That doesn't intrinsically disclude the show from being written well. There's so many parts of the series that deal with complex niche issues that focus on telling people it's ok to be who they are. Admittedly I don't expect that to be the most popular thing here, and I'll agree the fanbase is unsufferable. I think these issues SU brings up are important to talk about and to help reach people who feel alienated, but I do see that it becomes too close to tumblrinas and a multitude of other horrible parts of tolerance movements that have become awful shit stains of humanity.
I also don't like how the fanbase just shipped Lapis and Peridot super hard,when the writers said they were just trying to showcase two people living with each other
